Hundreds more London businesses will want to monitor exactly what their staff are doing during working hours in 2021 – despite this making their teams feel less trusted.

That’s the shocking prediction from local IT support expert Gary Marshall, of Marshall Info Tech.

He believes some firms will install special software on employees’ computers, that automatically records exactly what staff are doing.

“That means every key you press, mouse button you click and website you visit can be monitored,” Gary said.

“There are a number of software solutions already available to do this. Some can work secretly in the background; while others let staff know they’re being monitored. Typically they take regular screenshots as you work.

“I believe that as Work From Home continues in a big way into 2021, some businesses will want this insight.”

But Gary believes there’s a better way to help staff who can’t be in the office.

He said: “My advice to clients is normally to give their team the very latest software for better productivity, collaboration and communication. So you proactively make their jobs easier, rather than virtually stand watching over their shoulder.

“Most people want to do a great job, and appreciate these are tough times. I find that if you trust people and give them the right tools to do their work, they reward you with greater loyalty and getting more of the right things done.”
